I teased that we will be reviewing a Punisher story this week. We decided to go back to his 1986 roots and review the 1st Punisher mini-series which will be later be collected and known as Punisher: Circle of Blood.
One of the things that make this mini-series great was Mike Zeck‘s artwork. His distinctive style will always be associated to the Punisher character. Most of the artwork from this series has been used on merchandise like posters, shirts, packaging, etc. In fact, here are some of the covers of the mini-series and a page from the interior work. You probably have seen this reproduced on other merch:
The other part that makes this a great story is the writer, Steven Grant. He started writing while working at Marvel and this was one of his first stories. He started strong with this series and would continue to write other Marvel titles like the Avengers and The Incredible Hulk.
Jon and I talk about what real world events influenced the creation of the Punisher and also where did the did he come from and who actually created the character.
We hope to talk about more Punisher stories in the near future.
