This week we are not talking about a comic related item – not directly comic related. We are talking about Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The 2nd installment in the Disney Star Wars Trilogy.
The reason we are talking about this movie is because of the way fans have reacted to the movie. About half the people who saw this movie hated it. Some hated it so much that they tried to get the Rotten Tomatoes score to go lower through hacking attempts. Others put petitions together to get Disney to remove this movie from Star Wars canon.
This is the reason we had to do a Last Jedi review – to go over what exactly people hated about the movie and that hatred justified or is it just a fan boy knee jerk reaction to bold new moves?
**There are SPOILERS in the movie review. You know the drill: Don’t listen if you plan on seeing the movie.**
The program goes like this:
We discuss our opinion on the new movie.
We then discuss some of what we feel are “pain points” for Star Wars fan boys
We end the podcast with a comparison of Empire Strikes Back vs The Last Jedi (the similarities may shock you).
We tried to see the Wonder Woman movie last weekend and got locked out due to tickets selling out at the theaters in our area so instead of a review of that movie, we decided to review some new comics that have recently come out.
Jon does a review of Marvel’s Darth Vader # 1 Vol. 2
Writer: Charles Soule
Artist: Giuseppe Camuncoli
I do a review for Boom Studio’s Godshaper # 1 and 2
Writer: Simon “Si” Spurrier
Artist: Jonas Goonface
We really like one of these books and the jury is out on the other one. Listen to the podcast to see which one you should buy.
Welcome back to the podcast. We are doing a new comic review this week. We haven’t done one of these in a while and a few new books have come out. You know the drill: we read them, we review them and you either buy them or give a pass.
“Star Wars! Give me those Star Wars! Whole lotta Staaaaar Waaars! Da-Da-Da-Dun!”
We start the show with Bill Murray covering the Star Wars theme and it gets better from there. We are talking about the new Star Wars comics that Marvel launched last year and if they are worth reading and collecting.
Jon covers the main book – Star Wars! He runs down the story line for the first 12 issues and gives his opinion on the book and it’s characters.
I pick up from there and talk about Darth Vader and go over the first 12 issues. I will let you know if this book is worth reading.
We then share our thoughts on the Disney Rebel and Clone Wars show and how we wish Disney would do a live action show.
Join us for a lively conversation on comics and story telling. Bonus – there is some feedback that I did not pick up on happening on my mic so I kind of sound like Darth Vader!
