CM Podcast 154 – Avengers Infinity War

You know summer is in the air when the blockbuster movies start to make their way to the movie theater and there is no bigger summer movie than Avengers Infinity War!

AIW

This is a big movie, with a big story and even bigger cast.  I can say without any hype, there has not been a movie so many years in the making with a bigger pay off than this.  You may think the Star Wars movies have an epic storyline – Avengers Infinity War’s story is even bigger!  The stakes are huge and the heroes are desperate to “save the day”.

Now, I will not give any plot points away in this post but I can guarantee you that there are plenty of spoilers regarding the movie in our podcast.

AIW02

So this is your first and last spoiler warning – we talk about the movie and go over critical plot points.

If you have not seen the movie and don’t want anything spoiled – DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST YET!!

Go see the movie (which we advise you to do) then come back and hit play on the podcast.

Your Comics Pal.

CM Podcast 103 – Guardians of the Galaxy

Comics Misremembered Podcast 103

The 1st Guardians of the Galaxy movie came out in 2013. The sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 just came out on 5/5/2017.  Both movies were very successful so you are pretty familiar with…

Guardians of the Galaxy movie from left to right: Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Nebula, Drax and Star-Lord.

But are you familiar with the Guardians that came out in the comics in 2008?

Guardians of the Galaxy comics (2008) from left to right: Gamora, Rocket, Star-Lord, Adam Warlock, Drax and Phyla.

Or the original Guardians that came out in 1969?

The original Guardians of the Galaxy (1969) from left to right: Vance Astrovik, Charlie-27, Martinex T’Naga and Yondo Udonta.

We are celebrating our 2nd year anniversary (5/15/2015) this week and we do it by giving you a brief history on who are the comic versions of the Guardians from 1969 and 2008.  We also never had a chance to review the 1st Guardians movie so this is a double review of Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.  Sit back and relax and let the non-sense flow over you.

CM Podcast 30 – Comic Movies and their impact on comics

I was scrolling through my Twitter feeds earlier this week and I saw this post from Jimmy Palmiotti previewing an upcoming cover to the Harley Quin series.  Here is the art for the cover:

harleyquinn26

As you can see, Harley has changed the color to her hair.  In fact, the comic version of Harley Quinn is starting to look more and more like the Suicide Squad movie version of Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie.

I have noticed this with each passing year that if a comic movie or show is successful, the more the comic series starts looking like that successful movie or show.  Is this a good thing or a bad thing?  Well, the answer all depends on what changed in the comic.

Jon and I talk about the following successful movie franchises and the direct impact to their comic counterpart.  Here is the list:

  • Superman franchise
  • Batman franchise
  • X-Men franchise
  • Spider-man franchise
  • Phase 1 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
  • Guardians of Galaxy

These changes are going to be more common with each release of DC and Marvel’s upcoming movies and the changes are not necessarily a good thing.

At the end of the podcast, we touch quickly on Star Wars: The Force Awakens and I share a comic story of the Marvel translation of Return of the Jedi.
