Welcome back! We continue the discussion of Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons’ dark political satire – Give Me Liberty.
We discussed Books 1 and 2 last week and we continue on with the remaining Books 3 and 4.
We start the discussion with Miller’s crude brand of humor and we discuss if he could get away with this type of humor today. We go on to discuss Martha’s relationship with Chief Wasserstein, the introduction of the Surgeon General, the dissolution of the United States and Moretti’s final fate.
Some of the material is a bit dated but overall, Jon and I did enjoy reading (and rereading) this miniseries again.
The live action Ghost in the Shell movie starring Scarlett Johansson recently came out so we decided to do a Movie Face/Off!
Anime Vs Live Action
Jon and I will read the plot for the Anime movie first and then the plot of the Live Action movie. We will then discuss the merits of each movie and ultimately, let you know which one is the superior movie and why.
In case you have not guessed it, there are major spoilers for both movies in this podcast so fair warning.
Free Comic Book Day was Saturday, May 7th (I thought it was 5/14) and comic shops all over America gave away tons of free comics.
Jon and I were both working so we did not get a chance to go to our local swap and get in on all the free comic swag. Luckily for us, our local swap is cool and they saved us a few issue that they knew we would like.
We review the 3 free comics we picked up:
Rom, The Spaceknight #0
Civil War II #0
We go over the stories that are in the comic and ask the question: Will we buy the upcoming comics?
My apologies for confusing everyone at the start of the podcast. I said it was the 53rd podcast but it is really only the 52nd podcast. Sorry.
