The 4 main superhero shows on the CW (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow) have been doing crossover events for the last 4 years. We have covered the last 2 crossover events on our podcast for Invasion! and Crisis on Earth X.
For 2018, they are doing a crossover event for Elseworlds but it includes Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. Legends of Tomorrow was not involved this time around.
In the podcast this week, we go over the concept of Elseworlds and were it came from in DC comics continuity. We talk about a couple of the very first comics to actually have the Elseworlds imprint: Batman – Gotham by Gastlight and Batman – Holy Terror.
After we talk about DC’s history with Elseworlds, we then talk about the crossover event and how they used this concept of alt-reality on Barry Allen and Oliver Queen.
Jon and I then go into a discussion on the show’s overall storyline and what we took away after the event ended.
If you watched the event but don’t know much about the comics, we give you some good suggestions on what comics to pick up.
Heroes in Crisis is the new 9 issue miniseries by writer Tom King and artist Clay Mann.
It is published by DC and it is their 2018 event comic. How do I know it’s an Event Comic? Well, it does have “Crisis” right there in the title. I mean, that’s a dead give away right there, man. C’mon! Do you even comic book?
Enough of that silliness, let’s get back to serious business – talking about comic books! Jon and I had the opportunity to read the first issue of Heroes in Crisis that came out this past Wednesday and we decided to give it a review on the podcast but also take some guesses as to who is the murder. What? You didn’t know it was a murder mystery? Yep. There are many murders in this book and it was a hero that did it? (Or was it?)
Okay. Before we go too much further in the plot, let me just say right here:
THERE WILL BE SPOILERS IN THIS PODCAST!
Now, it’s just the first issue so I don’t know how much we can actually be spoiling but we do take some “stabs” at guessing who ultimately is responsible for the deaths at Sanctuary.
First Spoiler: There are 2 suspects that the reader is given at the end of the issue…
I know exactly what you are thinking: “Who is Booster Gold?” or “Hell Yeah, it’s Harley Quinn!” Both are valid points. Listen to the podcast and we give our opinions on who really is responsible for the murders. It just might change your opinion! We also go over a quick history of Booster Gold for those that need a refresher.
Heroes In Crisis is starting off with a bang (and a stab)! We look forward to the rest of the series. Also, if you want to know why “Crisis” is DC’s event brand, you should really listen to Podcast 132: CW’s Crossover Event: Crisis on Earth-X. I rundown all the related Crisis titles DC has published.
Welcome back once again to the All-new, All-difference Comics Misremembered Podcast. Okay. I lied. It’s not that different. Jon and I still get drunk and try to remember information about comics, shows and movies but it is a new podcast. I did not lie about that.
This week we are talking about the CW DC Comic shows: Supergirl, The Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. They had their 2nd crossover event called Crisis on Earth-X.
Jon and I watched all 4 parts and we break them down. We review the highs (and lows) of the shows and let you know if you show watch it.
The other part of a Crossover Event is: will it get you to watch the other shows? The whole point of this is to expose viewers to the other show’s characters and hope they are interesting enough that you will continue to watch the other shows after the event. Jon and I also discuss this on the podcast.
I also give a (very) brief history of DC and their relationship with the word “Crisis”.
We feel that we did not get to talk about the Flash show as much as we wanted to so we do a quick recap of Season 1 and then go over the first episode of Season 2.
Season on ended with Central City being engulfed by a Time Singularity vortex. Only one man has the power to save the city. Who is that man? Freddie Mercury, tell the people who that is:
‘Flash! He saved every one of us!”
Thanks, Queen. It was Flash – just not the same Flash as in that music video. It was Central City’s own Scarlett Speedster – The Flash! He put his powers in gear and was able to save the city from total annihilation. Or did he? We review this in the podcast.
We also talk about the new “villain” that is introduced called Atom-Smasher and his mysterious benefactor, Zoom. I speculate on who exactly Zoom will be and give you a primer on the 21st century Zoom.
Jon gives his insight on Flash and his different relationships that he has with his father and Dr. Wells.
After talking about the Flash, we do a quick rundown on upcoming comic-related shows like The Walking Dead and I remember the upcoming CW show – DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow. Here is the clip I mention in the podcast:
We hope you are enjoying Flash and like our commentary in the podcast.
