Happy New Year, folks! Welcome to 2017 and I hope it is a peaceful and prosperous year for you.
We are back talking comics this week and the item on the table tonight is Civil War II or as I like to call it Civil Wat The Sequel. Jon and I have a lively and frank discussion on the story and it’s impact in the Marvel Universe.
There will be **spoilers** so if you have not read it (and think that you may want to read it in the near future) then go read it and come back once you are done.
We will answer the question:
Is Civil Wat II a battle between differing ideology of heroes on the concepts of fate and free will that at the conclusion of the series, the impacts of our heroes’ actions will be felt by the Marvel Universe for years to come?
Is Civil War II just a cash grab based on a popular miniseries?
Listen to the podcast and find out. Also, we mention that we were going to talk about Marvel’s other miniseries Death of X(and we were! Honest!) but we go so caught up in talking about Civil War Dos that we ran out of time. We will talk about Death of X next week.
I have included the time code for each review, in case you want to jump ahead to that point but I recommend listening to the entire podcast for all the humor and political references.
*MAJOR SPOILER ALERTS*
We do revel some plot points in all the comics (not all the surprises but most). The surprise twist to Captain America was spoiled for me prior to reading it (Thanks, Internet!) but I also have to reveal it in order to give my take on “Why Captain America says what he says at the end of the comic” so don’t say we did not warn you!!
Free Comic Book Day was Saturday, May 7th (I thought it was 5/14) and comic shops all over America gave away tons of free comics.
Jon and I were both working so we did not get a chance to go to our local swap and get in on all the free comic swag. Luckily for us, our local swap is cool and they saved us a few issue that they knew we would like.
We review the 3 free comics we picked up:
Rom, The Spaceknight #0
Civil War II #0
We go over the stories that are in the comic and ask the question: Will we buy the upcoming comics?
My apologies for confusing everyone at the start of the podcast. I said it was the 53rd podcast but it is really only the 52nd podcast. Sorry.
